TRN Mobilizations

The Kansas City Trauma Recovery Network has responded to multiple community disasters.

Below is a summary of the events, and services provided in 2004.

2024

Date:  Dec 28, 2024
Location:  Kansas City, MO
Disaster Type:  Armed Robbery

On December 28, 2024, at American restaurant Earl's Premier, 2 individuals entered the restaurant while staff were closing for the night.  Though the 2 suspects were carrying firearms, no one was shot, and no one was seriously injured.  However, 1 employee did sustain injuries.  The suspects left with money.  Through the KCTRN Facebook page, we were notified of staff members needing mental health support.  Our volunteer coordinator reached out to Earl's Premier, and pro bono services were provided to those requesting it.

Date:  April 23, 2024
Location:  Blue Springs, MO
Disaster Type:  Mass Shooting

On April 13, 2024, at Wilbur Young Park, a shooting occurred, resulting in the injury of 1 individual, and the death of 2 others.  A volleyball game was occurring, and many of the kids at the park were teens from South Blue Springs High School.  We thank the Blue Springs Police Department for providing survivors with the KC TRN's information.  In response, the TRN reached out via social media to provide information to our volunteers.  The TRN also recruited volunteers in that specific part of KC and pro bono services were provided to those requesting it.

Date:  February 14, 2024
Location:  Kansas City, MO
Disaster Type:  Mass Shooting

On February 14, 2024, at the parade celebrating the Kansas City Chief's win of the Super Bowl, a shooting occurred, killing one and wounding many. An event designed for the city to come together to celebrate, became a scene with chaos and tragedy.  In response, the KC TRN recruited 89 volunteer licensed mental health therapists.  We also communicated with city organizations, including, but not limited to, the office of Quinton Lucas, county prosecutors office, and local tv/radio stations to get the word out to those affected.  In total, 28 people reached out for pro bono therapy, and 19 received pro bono serives..
